Covers and cohomology in finite geometry
Matthew Brown (University of Adelaide)

In finite geometry we are often interested in "regular" subgeometries of the geometry. The relationship between the subgeometry and the geometry itself can sometimes be investigated using covers of the subgeometry and some associated basic cohomology theory. In this talk I will discuss two examples of such techniques. The first is characterising the classical generalized quadrangle Q(5,q) by a regular embedding of a classical subquadrangle Q(4,q). The second is representing generalized quadrangles with a regular point and their groups.
