Linear cellular automata, sofic groups and stable finiteness of group rings
Michel Coornaert (IRMA, Université de Strasbourg)

We consider the notions of linear cellular automata, of residually finite groups, amenable groups and sofic groups, and relate these notions to problems in symbolic dynamics (Gottschalk's surjunctivity problem) and to ring theory (Kaplansky's conjecture on the stable finiteness of group rings).
