The talk will focus on two areas. Firstly we will look at specific case of how the construction of new examples can motivate theory. Secondly, we will look at the class of algorithms which perform exhaustive searches for configurations in a classical geometry in which the algorithm returns exactly one copy for each isomorphism class of the configuration.
Recently, there has been some interest in (minimal) line covers of . By a surprising result of Blokhuis et al., such covers exist for sizes with (whereas the largest maximal partial spreads have at most lines, with ). In about 1980 I proved that every group of order which admits a system of disjoint subgroups of order , where , is necessarily elementary abelian. To complement these results, I now show that every group of order admitting a cover by subgroups of order , where , the smallest prime divisor of , is again elementary abelian. If is actually any power of , say , I can also construct a not elementary abelian group of order which has a cover with subgroups of order . Some open problems are also discussed.
We investigate a way of characterizing or constructing new generalized quadrangles of order from subquadrangles of order . In particular, we look at the subquadrangle , , when is a Tits oval.
Starting from a particular set of planes in , even, Yoshiara constructs an extended generalized quadrangle of order ( ). He gives an example of such a class of planes; the arising is denoted by , some plane dual hyperoval. Here we construct another such class of planes, giving an denoted , a -arc of . In general . Starting from a particular set of planes, this time in , even, we construct an . We show that two such classes of arise as -fold quotients of and . In total we thus obtained 3 new infinite classes of .
The subject of the talk is the following problem:
given a projective (or polar) space of dimension and integers , what is the smallest size of a set of -subspaces such that every -subspace is incident with an element of .Many known results will be presented (like the Theorem of Bose and Burton). Then some recent results we presented. One is the solution of the case in projective space (with J. Eisfeld). In the polar space I can solve the problem for (blocking lines by points) except for the symplectic polar spaces , odd. I also can solve the problem for the elliptic quadric . The result covers in particular the following theorem:
in at least points are necessary to block all maximal singular subspaces. All minimum examples can be classified.
In this talk I will report on the problem of extending partial spreads of to spreads. Recent progress of L. Storme and myself will be presented. Also the problem of maximal partial line spreads and line coverings in , even, will be considered. The second part of the talk presents old and new (very recent) results on the maximal size of exterior sets in finite hyperbolic quadrics.
Both unitals and Baer subplanes are sets of points in which are
met by any line in either 1 or points. In this talk I will survey
the results which characterize the classical and Buekenhout-Metz unitals
in terms of Baer sublines, and discuss the previously known results about
the possible sizes of the intersection of a Baer subplane with such a
unital.
I will outline the proof of the recent result (obtained jointly
with Sue Barwick and Leo Storme) which characterizes the classical and
the Buekenhout-Metz unitals in terms of the size of their intersection
with certain Baer subplanes.
A Baer partition of a projective plane of order is a collection of Baer subplanes such that every point of the plane is contained in a unique element of the collection. Results classifying all Baer partitions of translation planes of order 9, 16 and 25 are presented. In particular new partitions of Desarguesian projective planes of orders 16 and 25 are given. Non-Desarguesian translation planes of orders 9, 16 and 25 are shown not to exist. Finally the structure of one of the non-classical examples in in examined and a conjecture made about the existence of a class on non-classical examples in even (square) order planes.
The Signature Lemma of Cordovil and Duchet states that if is a uniform oriented matroid of rank on an -element set endowed with the linear order and of each has the property
then is an alternating matroid on . In the Signature Theorem, it is shown that if each has the property

where
,
then is alternating in .
The relationship between orthogonal triple systems and Room squares is well known. The problem of the spectrum of orthogonal Latin squares is quite difficult and was only solved recently. We give a relationship between a new object skew orthogonal triple systems and skew Room squares. This simple extra condition on orthogonal triple systems makes for a much various object. We get some partial existence results (approx 11,000) possible exceptions. We also give forbidden subgraph characterization of skew orthogonal triple systems.
I discuss properties of Goppa Codes defined by divisors and . In particular I study way of improvement the minimum distance via the structure of the Weierstrass Semigroup at .
A generalization of Lagrange's inversion formula is given for functions of variables that does not involve a determinant. If was discussed why this version is better than Good's formula for asymptotic enumeration purposes, but has no advantage as an exact formula.
We re-examine an old construction of difference sets due to Gordon, Mills and Welch: which combines a difference set in a group with a relative difference set in a group containing as a normal subgroup to produce a difference set in . We characterize such ``decomposable'' difference sets by the fact that their associated symmetric designs admit a nice partition into subdesigns. This is also related to generalized balanced weighing matrices, and we describe a new construction for such indices.
Partial geometries with the same parameters as the ``classical'' model (constructed by F. De Clerck, R. Dye and J.A. Thas) can be constructed by replacing spreads. This construction can be also interpreted in graph theoretical terms and it turns out that replacing spreads is most of the time nothing else then switching (see Seidel) the underlying strongly regular point graph. As a by product of this theory we find set of points in that have the same intersection numbers with respect to hyperplanes as the hyperbolic quadric. We call these sets ``near quadrics''.
Alcune
proprietà geometriche di tale varietà sono date. Tra le altre:
1) è una -calotta di ;
isomorfo a

We are dealing with the graph of an -dimensional hypercube from
the point of view of a behavioral application of it: we study structural
properties of the s.c. weighted voting systems.
The vertices of
correspond to all possible coalitions and those edges are interesting
that join losing coalitions with winning ones.
Our study leads to the concept of a selfcomplementary cut of ,
i.e. of such a set of edges that is close under complementation and that
shares exactly one edge with every geodesic. A characterization is
given.
finite in chiave topologica.
Many commercial parallel systems have been built with torus as the
processor interconnection topology. Lee distance is an appropriate metric
useful to describe the interconnection topology of these toroidal
networks. Many topological properties of these networks can be developed
based on Lee distance. In this talk, we concentrate on edge disjoint
Hamiltonian cycles. First, we present our results on Lee distance Gray
codes and then show how these codes can be used to generate edge disjoint Hamiltonian cycles in torus. These results are also extended to hypercubes.
We also describe methods
of generating edge disjoint Hamiltonian cycles in de Bruijn networks.

I started a series of 3 talks concerning topics on Goppa Codes. I start by recalling basic facts on linear codes. Then I introduce the terminology for the study of Goppa Codes. Then I plan to study some properties of such codes and then restrict myself to one-point Goppa Codes.
In this lecture I showed the main dimension and distance properties of Goppa Codes. I discussed Weierstrass semigroups and started the study of so called Hermitian Codes.
I finished the study of the dimension and minimum distance of Hermitian Codes. I discuss one-point Goppa Codes as well as improved Goppa Codes.
È possibile proiettare queste calotte in
In this talk I discussed principles on which one can build both symmetric and non-symmetric cryptosystems based on certain objects called logarithmic signatures for finite groups. ``Tame'' logarithmic signatures are sequences of sequences of group elements such that , where if . In addition, the term ``tame'' implies that if the unique factorization ( ), can be obtained by a polynomial time algorithm in , where . A logarithmic signature is ``wild'' if the above factorization can not be obtained in time polynomial in . One way functions can be obtained by composing objects which are wild with objects which are tame. More precisely, every logarithmic signature induces a bijection . If and are two logarithmic signatures with wild and tame, then is a one way function. One family of tame logarithmic signatures is the family of ``transversal'' ones. If and are transversal logarithmic signatures, then is a permutation in , and is the collection of all such permutations (with both transversal). We show that in almost all cases, and therefore, permutations with transversal and wild can be written as the composition of objects in . This can be used to create a new public key cryptosystem.
A free module over a ring is said to be of rank n (or dim ) if it has a basis of cardinality . The rank is not unique (P. Cohn, Topology, V.5, 1966), thus one is led to consider the following successively strong property of a ring ().
C. A free -module of any rank cannot be generated by less than elements.
The class of rings satisfying the property will be denoted by [IN].
Affine space Aff() of a free module is the set of all unimodular elements. The element is unimodular iff there exists a linear form
such that
.
Theorem (Fundamental Theorem of affine Geometry) Let be free modules, [IN], dim = dim . Let be a collineation which preserves parallelity, then there exists an isomorphism such that for any unimodular element , , where is a basis of we have
Each flock of a quadratic cone defines a generalized quadrangle, a translation plane and, for even, a set of hyperovals. Till now the relation between flocks and hyperovals was purely algebraic,. here we present a purely geometric construction of the hyperovals from the flock. Also, as a byproduct, it is shown that the GQ of Tits of order , even, arising from flocks have spreads; lines of the spread are lines of quadratic cones. Further, some results on partial flocks are mentioned and topics for further research are explained.
I present results concerning sequenceable groups , that is groups for which the elements can be listed as in such a way that the partial products are distinct, and also results about other kinds of sequences with combinatorial applications. In particular, Leonard and Wang have recently improved a result of Keedwell's about -sequencings, and Wang (C-D Wang)has just obtained sequencings for a new class of groups of odd order, namely, groups of order ( an odd prime) having a cyclic subgroup of order .
This is a survey of some results connecting the two fields. We present results for hypergroups in which is the set of vertices on all geodesics from to , on all non self-intersecting paths from to . Then we mention results for directed graphs. Following the ideas of Chvalina we also define ( a binary relation on ) with . recent results of De Salvo and Lo Faro with are mentioned. Finally, there are the connections to fuzzy sets and semigroups and clones in universal algebra.
