Piero D'Ancona is Full Professor of Analysis in the University of Rome I "La Sapienza". Laurea in Mathematics at the University of Pisa, Diploma di Licenza in Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, Ph.D. course in Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa (Corso di Perfezionamento). He spent extended visits in several departments in Paris, in Courant Institute in New York, in Imperial College in London, and in Japan.

He has been Assistant Professor at the University of Rome II, 1989-91; Associate Professor at the University of Pisa, 1992-93; Full Professor at the University of L'Aquila, 1994-97, and at Rome I, 1997-present.

His research topics include: local and global existence for hyperbolic equations and systems; degenerate hyperbolic equations; analytic and Gevrey regularity of solutions; equations of Kirchhoff type; nonlinear parabolic systems; nonlinear wave equation, decay estimates; geometric wave equations; scattering for NLS with variable coefficients; regularity for the Navier-Stokes equation; topics in harmonic analysis.
